About Shelley Cushway Dip CBH Dip I Hyp NLP
After a successful career in Human Resources in the corporate world I decided to retrain as a business coach and therapist. Initially focusing on nutrition, a lifelong interest, I studied and qualified as a nutritional advisor.
Whilst studying it soon became clear to me that knowing what to eat and why is only a small part of the puzzle. The mind, behaviours and attitudes to food are what really drives our relationship with food. This sparks an interest in understanding in what drives our behaviour, how the mind operates and how to achieve lasting change.
As a result I went on to study hypnotherapy and neurolinguistic programming (NLP), cognitive behaviour hypnotherapy, mindfulness and meditation which I combine with traditional coaching techniques learnt during my HR career. I used these techniques to help people achieve their potential or to overcome the things in their lives that are holding them back.
Working in both business environments and with individuals privately my passion is supporting people to reach their potential.
I have qualifications in cognitive behaviour hypnotherapy, integrated hypnotherapy, NLP coach practitioner, mindfulness coach, guided meditation and nutritional advice along with training in coaching and consultancy.

I use a combination of hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, coaching techniques & mindfulness to find the right combination of support for you. Everyone is unique and I work hard to create a treatment / coaching programme that is focused to your particular needs.
The Techniques I Use.
Hypnotherapy combines therapy and hypnosis and uses the power of positive suggestion. During hypnosis your conscious mind, where your mind is busy with day to day life, is at rest and calm, while your subconscious mind is open and receptive to suggestions. Modern psychology describes hypnosis as a ‘state of increased suggestibility’. This increased suggestability is able to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

As a hypnotherapist I work in collaboration with my clients to achieve this state and then suggest powerfully crafted thoughts, ideas and visualisations that introduce deep levels of change. Through the process of working together we examine the scripts that your mind is playing and create more resourceful, positive and powerful scripts that help to change the way you think.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy integrates hypnosis and hypnotherapy with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). We’ll work together really collaboratively to understand what your issue or problem is and map out a working model of how the issue or problem works. Then supporting you to become aware of the thoughts and feelings that influence your behaviour and the behavioural patterns that reinforce the negative thinking. As you will discover it is a cycle that, once understood, can be broken and redirected.

This client had a lack of confidence in social settings that was starting to impact on his general feelings of well-being. There were certain scenarios that he would avoid completely. We worked together over a period of 10 sessions gradually understanding what was causing his lack of confidence and slowly building up both his confidence and self-esteem. We worked with relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, NLP and traditional coaching techniques along with mindfulness techniques.
This client had a fear of heights which extended to escalators, bridges, open staircases, any scenario where there was a view down from a height.Â Over a series of 4 sessions we worked on introducing relaxation techniques to counteract the anxiety, we then used hypnotherapy to gradually de-sensitise his fear of heights.Â Between sessions he tested different scenarios to build up his confidence.
